The basic premise of our shed is to provide an informal location where men in the Cairns Community can spend time engaged in manual crafts such as wood working, metal working, the restoration of old furniture, toys and machinery. For those that are not into the hands on side we also have a Library / computer room (with three computers) and NBN facility plus a model railway that is continually being developed.
Our shed is a place for men of all ages (must be 18 years or older) to be socially active and form friendships, discover new opportunities and actives whether in retirement, or still working and need outlet for their leisure time.
Members range from skilled crafts-men, to men who are using tools or taking on an activity for the first time. The shed is what you make of it and you can bring along your own project or help others with theirs. You can spend as much or as little time at the shed that meets your own needs.
There are days when some members play cards (not too serious) and also Mahjong. Other social activities include Trivia, Bingo nights etc. where the club helps towards the cost of the meals. Our social area is there for you just to sit, talk, read the paper or just have a coffee.
SPEAKERS. We have guest speakers regarding mental and physical health, as well as on ageing, and ongoining issues like getting an Enduring Power of Attorney and advanced health Directive.
The following is a list of some of the many activities provided for at the shed.
